Multiple screens: missing "show alfred on active screen" option
Andrew replied to johncarney's topic in Discussion & Help
Make sure you are using Alfred 2 downloaded directly from http://alfredapp.com then the option is available in Alfred's Appearance > Options -
Feature Request: Bluetooth instead of Wifi Connection
Andrew replied to jdaugherty's topic in Alfred Remote Discussion & Help
Hmm, I'm not quite sure how possible this is... Have you tried connecting your iOS device using the same connection instructions above? If you can, then Bonjour may work over USB. I haven't tested this though. [by same instructions, I mean if you can setup your iOS device to Mac network via USB as if you are using your iOS device as a modem] Cheers, Andrew- 8 replies

Can't use second Computer [Resolved]
Andrew replied to freakmac5's topic in Remote Connection Troubleshooting
You don't need a family license... there may be another issue which is getting Alfred Remote to report this when trying to connect. Could you check if it's just one of the Macs it won't reconnect to (i.e. it will always reconnect to the 2014 iMac, but not the 2008 MacBook)?- 16 replies

Regarding the subtext (for sr105) Here is an example of how much path information you have lost by truncating in the middle (and seeing the filename in both the result title and subtext)... vs the current way where Alfred truncates the tail and you see the full path and the beginning of the filename in the subtext... Tyler's original suggestion of truncating middle on the title component is definitely worth consideration as this DOES mean you lose resolution of the file you are currently looking at. The truncation is controlled as a whole so this would mean centre truncation on all result titles.

Passphrase problem.. [Resolved]
Andrew replied to Syncz's topic in Remote Connection Troubleshooting
If remote gets stuck at the "Connecting to iMac" part of the passphrase, then Alfred Remote is trying to make a connection to the iMac and not succeeding. Did you answer "Yes" on your Mac when it asked the question if Alfred Remote Server was allowed incoming connections? You can check under OS X's Security & Privacy > Firewall settings. Do you have any other software on your Mac which may prevent a connection such as Little Snitch? Cheers, Andrew -
Oh oh, just re-read... if it's just a URL scheme for launching remote (and not posting commands to Alfred), then I already have a ticket for this
-
It's significantly more than this... primarily the security implications. As soon as an app has a URL scheme, this can be run by any app (including websites) at any point. [simplified], this would mean that a website could run things on your Mac. If a URL scheme comes to Alfred Remote, it would need to be a negotiated and secured scheme to only allow authorised apps to run things on your Mac. Take a look at this search term on Google for more info: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=secure+url+scheme Essentially, inter-app communication will come to Remote, but only after careful consideration.

Excellent

You can achieve this with a workflow. Here is a simple example for you: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6749767/Alfred/Workflows/Kitten%20Image.alfredworkflow It takes a comma separated argument with keyword kitten to launch a URL with two arguments

You need to press shift+cmd+. (shift command dot), not just hold down shift and command... this will toggle on and off the hidden files.

Can't Find the Remote [Resolved]
Andrew replied to sirmon's topic in Remote Connection Troubleshooting
I'm going to make this more clear in the next release as a few other users have had this same issue... so it's more of a UX problem, not you! Cheers, Andrew -
I'm not sure what could have been causing it as it's rare to have this kind of thing reported - it could have just been a CDN node failure and using a browser may have used a different node. I suspect you won't see this issue again Cheers, Andrew

store alfred prefs at the system level instead of user?
Andrew replied to joshuagarr's topic in Discussion & Help
You can actually set the sync folder in Alfred's Advanced preferences to any folder you like. As long as all users have write access to the folder you have set, then they will share preferences. Note that if you automatically deploying Alfred, there may be some Powerpack implications - it might be best popping an email to our info@alfredapp address to chat it through with Vero. If you use cmd+shift+. this will show hidden files in OS X's "Open" sheet... this is a neat little trick which works in all OS X sheets

Can't Find the Remote [Resolved]
Andrew replied to sirmon's topic in Remote Connection Troubleshooting
I just had a thought, when the iPad shows the Mac, have you selected the Mac (tapped it) on the iPad to get it to connect to your Mac? -
I plan a huge overhaul to the clipboard history for the future of Alfred, but this will be during a major rather than minor release cycle.

Can't Use Alfred with Multiple User Accounts
Andrew replied to timstringer's topic in Alfred Remote Discussion & Help
You should be able to run Alfred Remote fine on two separate user accounts with one important caveat... If you are using fast user switching (not fully logging out of your main account), you'll need to turn off the remote server (from Alfred's Remote prefs) on one account before switching to the other account otherwise remote may be trying to connect to Alfred on the wrong user account. -
I'm going to bring Alfred just in front of modal dialogs for the next release, you'll have to let me know if this is far enough forward for the apps you mention
