alfred fails to repeatable open the proper space to get application in focus

Ive been using 5.5[2257] and have the following problem.  I activate an app on another space and sometimes the focus does not change to that app.  Sometimes it works, sometimes not.  Whether it works or not at any given time does not seem to be a function of the app I am trying to open, nor the number of workspaces I have.
